Your win chance and payout both shift as you move the target, and you can see them up front. Give yourself more room to win and the multiplier drops. Go for a bigger payout and fewer results will get you there.
Say the target is 50.00 and you pick under. Any roll from 0.00 to 49.99 wins, which is a 50% chance. Drop the target to 20.00 and your chance falls to 20%, or switch to over and it jumps to 80%. Every dice bet at MetaWin pays out on the same rule: divide the game's RTP by your win chance. On MetaWin Dice, which runs at 97%, a 50% win chance pays 1.94x and a 10% chance pays 9.7x. Prime Dice runs at 98%, so the same two bets pay 1.96x and 9.8x.
Lower win chances pay more and higher ones win more often, but neither comes out ahead on average. Whichever target you choose, you lose 3% of what you wager on MetaWin Dice over the long run, or 2% on Prime Dice, and that counts every bet, including winnings you play again.
Over a few dozen rolls, though, results can look nothing like the average. At a 2% win chance on Prime Dice, roughly 36% of 50-roll runs contain no win at all. At low win chances, long dry spells are normal.

Move it right and you are grinding small wins. The maths is right there on screen before you commit, which is not something you get with slots or table games.
