On a European wheel, every bet carries a 2.7% house edge. American roulette doubles this to 5.26% because of the extra 00 pocket. If the table offers the La Partage or En Prison rule on even-money bets, the edge drops to 1.35%. When you have the choice, always pick European over American.
Many players like to use betting strategies when playing roulette. While these strategies won't overcome the house edge, they can help you play with more discipline and give your sessions a set of rules to follow.
The Martingale is the most well-known system. You double your bet after each loss on an even-money wager like red/black, so that the next win recoups all previous losses plus one unit of profit. It works in short streaks, but a long losing run can push you into the table limit quickly.
The Fibonacci is a gentler version of the same idea. Instead of doubling, you follow the Fibonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13...) and move one step forward after a loss, two steps back after a win. The ramp-up is slower, so your bankroll lasts longer through rough patches.
The D'Alembert is the most conservative of the three. You increase your bet by one unit after a loss and decrease it by one unit after a win. It produces smaller swings than the Martingale, which makes it a good starting point if you want to try a system without going aggressive.
None of these systems change the house edge. What they do change is how your session plays out: how long it lasts, how much you risk, and how the wins and losses spread across it.
